i’m bummed to announce that i do not have access to the studio in NE minneapolis anymore .. but there are always lots of great and unique locations to use around the cities and other studios that rent by the hour .. so i’ll be scouting those out for senior sessions!

i did decide to take my girls (and Riley) down to use it one last time .. and i’m glad i did!

my oldest daughter .. love these images! my girls are growing into young women .. anyone have any idea on how to stop time??

why is it that the guys who seem NOT to be into the session turn out to be naturals in front of the camera? no complaints here .. made for an easy session :)

and then this one here .. um yeah .. total GQ material here!

but this one is my fav .. mr ‘I’ was rockin’ the fedora .. and the attitude!

for my beautiful niece .. who has grown into such a lovely young lady! i had the pleasure of traveling to Chicago this weekend for her senior session .. and also was able to get some girl time with my sister-in-law :)

anyway .. we headed over to Cantigny Park near her house and it was just gorgeous .. i had never been there before so we just started walking and finding all these great spots .. like this near the back of one of the houses on the property .. love her eyes here!

after N changed we came back for some more here .. up on the porch …

then around the back near the garden pond .. where N was channeling Jackie O :)

then we headed down towards another area which was just lovely …

and i usually don’t condone just going up to and taking a picture with a stranger .. but this guy was so cute we just had too :)

i had the pleasure of taking K’s senior pictures last night and just like his sister .. whose senior session i photographed 2 years ago .. it was a tough session ;)

so tough just like his sisters it was hard to narrow down the images for the peek .. and he made it so easy and was very comfortable in front of the camera .. i mean look at those eyes. but from talking with mom .. you think he would have been going to the dentist instead of a photography session for all it took to get him out the door! don’t worry K .. i’m sure you are not the only guy who feels that way .. but hopefully i made the session easy for you too!

anyway .. we started off in wayzata …

and then headed over to the middle school .. really loving this spot …

and then out to the countryside .. where i kept telling K “one more shot” … “this is the last one” … “oh .. maybe one other one here .. i like this spot” … but like i said he was so easy to work with and just went along with it! but i swear if you look at his face on this shot (which was THE last shot) you can hear him thinking “are you kidding me lady?”!!!

we started the session down at the studio and finished up near his house at his old elementary school .. loved this shot .. those dimples!

for miss C from her senior portrait session the other night at Arneson Acres. i had met C two years ago when we did a senior session for her brother .. along with some sibling shots with her and their little brother. but this time it was her turn .. and she was just as lovely to photograph now as she was then :)

loved her dress with this location .. colors were perfect for the potted flowers!

just had to post a few that I loved from C’s session the other morning .. C was one of my senior reps and chose to do her signature session downtown near the Mill City Museum. unfortunately the backside was under construction so we didn’t get to use that location as we wanted .. but luckily there are other great locations right in the area that we used! we started off the session across the river near St. Anthony Main and found this sweet spot ..

then after I figured out how to get back across the river .. have I mentioned how I always get lost in downtown Minneapolis? anyway after we discovered that Mill City was not an option and after walking around and finding little spots here and there we headed over to the Guthrie to cool down and finish up the session. we did get outside to the endless bridge for this next shot .. loved the color combo ..

and finally we come to my favorite image .. i knew when i saw this area that i wanted to shoot something there .. and luckily ‘C’ was up for it and totally rocked the moody look of the shot!

we started this early morning session at the Millennium Gardens in Plymouth .. and it was gorgeous .. beautiful flowers and a beautiful senior! loved how these flowers matched her dress .. and not to worry .. we didn’t pick one but found one that had fallen on the ground.

after the gardens we headed down to Wayzata Beach for some images there .. love that i caught that dimple in her cheek!

and then we were off to another location for a different feel .. and by this time it had just started to drizzle very slightly.. but we managed to finish up just before the rain came .. whew!

just a quick peek for miss ‘R’ .. who you may recognize as one of my senior reps from this year .. we got together the other night for her senior session and had fun stopping at a few impromptu locations! the first i’ve passed by many times and was glad when mom mentioned that she had pics of ‘R’ amongst the same type of flowers from when she was 2 years old … i’m sure it will be fun to see this next to the other image!

the next stop was a location that was just down the road from the flowers .. loved this in b+w …

and then it was off to the original destination .. which was noerenberg gardens .. such a gorgeous place for a gorgeous young woman!

it was a pleasure meeting this young man .. he volunteers with several local groups and has aspirations of helping others in his future career choice .. what an inspiration to us all! we met down at the studio and captured some images there first .. both inside ..

and outside .. i was so glad to catch this little smirk aimed at mom & dad .. love it when i can capture true expressions like these ;)

one thing i tell clients for senior sessions (or any session for that matter) is that i want to incorporate items that are important to them, that define them. so if you are in the band .. bring along the instrument. if you are in a sport .. bring along your equipment or letter jacket or we can shoot at the playing field. if you are a dancer .. bring those ballet shoes. if a location has special meaning to you .. let’s bring the session there. let’s make this session uniquely yours.

so i loved it when ‘C’ wanted to finish the session at Parker’s Lake (one of the places he volunteers at) and had his sister meet us there with this little gal who is obviously an important part of his life.

last year miss ‘C’ helped me test out the studio space .. and this year she called to have me take her senior pictures! i was thrilled to work with her again .. she is such a natural in front of the camera and we had a great time chatting throughout the session! we used this chair in her last session .. but with a different outfit (adore the hat!) and some different processing .. a much different image:

i knew when i took this image that i would love it .. and i’m hoping mom & dad & ‘R’ does too!! it just makes me smile!

and cause i can’t just post one image .. one more from our senior session last night. it didn’t rain last night .. but i’ve had this umbrella for years and thought it would make a great prop.

this location isn’t exactly new .. its been around for a long time .. and many wayzata high schoolers may recognize it. and god knows i’ve been there enough times; dropping off forgotten homework, dropping off for practices, picking up from practices, that i just thought of it as the middle school my kids went to. but recently i noticed some spots that i wanted to try out and luckily my latest rep was game for it .. thanks so much ‘F’ for being a great sport .. can’t wait till the next session!
